No Regrets: Counter-culture and Anarchism in Vancouver

Product Information

What was it like running wild in the streets with the Yippies? Or invading the USA at Blaine, Washington? Imagine civil disobedience against The Bomb in the days when peace was a dirty word! How and why did one become a Beatnik? What were the “hippies” really about? Why anarchism in Vancouver, of all places?

No Regrets will answer those questions and many others about the 1960s and 70s. And while striding quickly through international countercultural hotspots such as Toronto, Mexico, San Francisco, Berkeley, London and the inevitable Kootenays, this memoir never loses its Vancouver focus.

No Regrets is an invaluable contribution to the history of the anarchist movement during the tumultuous era of the 1960s and ‘70s. – Allan Antliff, Associate professor, Modern and Contemporary Art, Anarchist Studies, U. of Victoria, B. C.

The Canadian anarchistLarry Gambone grew up in logging towns on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, where his first social activism was in the Ban-the-Bomb movement. He attended Simon Fraser University in 1967–1970 where he was active in the New Left, including the campus IWW branch. Later he joined the Vancouver Yippies, lived briefly on a commune in the Kootenays, and helped form the anarchist paper The Open Road. Gambone remains active in his community (Nanaimo) and continues to study and write about anarchism and other social movements.
